Robert Russel

Born and raised in Maryland, Robert “Rob” Russell grew up as the youngest of four siblings in a close-knit family that instilled in him a strong sense of responsibility and compassion. These early values shaped the way he approaches both his personal life and his commitment to serving others.

Rob’s dedication to community service began at a young age. At just 15 years old, he started working in the medical field, gaining hands-on experience in healthcare settings and building a career rooted in helping people during times of crisis. Alongside this, Rob also became deeply involved in his local volunteer fire department, where he held several leadership positions before ultimately serving as President. In that role, he coordinated emergency responses, supported training programs, and made the welfare of his fellow volunteers a priority.

Service and advocacy have always been central to Rob’s life. His experiences supporting his partner through health challenges reinforced his belief in the importance of empathy and advocacy for others facing medical and personal struggles. This commitment has driven his continued work to improve access to care, raise awareness, and ensure that no one feels alone in their journey toward better health.

Rob also serves as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the Kevin Berthia Foundation. In this position, he provides strategic leadership and financial oversight while working passionately to advance the foundation’s mission of promoting mental health awareness, suicide prevention, and hope.

Beyond his work in healthcare and mental health advocacy, Rob has dedicated over eight years of service to the American Legion as a “Son of the American Legion.” Through this organization, he has honored veterans, contributed to community projects, and strengthened his commitment to public service and patriotism.

In 2012, Rob met Katherine, whose courage in facing health challenges further fueled his dedication to advocacy. Standing alongside her has not only deepened his personal journey but also inspired him to help others navigate similar struggles.

Rob’s story is one of leadership, service, and unwavering dedication to others. From his time in the fire department to his work in healthcare and nonprofit leadership, he continues to make a lasting impact on the lives of those around him.
